OSLO, Norway – Fred. Olsen Windcarrier (FOWIC) is supporting Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) with extended vessel capacity by temporarily mobilizing a second installation vessel, the Bold Tern, to the Asia/Pacific region.

In 2019, SGRE contracted FOWIC to transport and install the wind turbines on the Yunlin wind farm offshore Taiwan. Using the jackup vessel Brave Tern, this marked the company’s entry into the APAC region.

The companies have signed an amendment extending the charter period which will allow the Brave Tern to complete the Yunlin project in a continuous campaign. The amendment materially improves FOWIC’s backlog for 2021.

To facilitate this, the Bold Tern will depart Europe this summer to undergo the planned crane upgrade and subsequently fulfill the company’s other contract obligations for the 2022 season in the APAC region.

Its third jackup vessel, Blue Tern, will execute the Moray East project in the UK, which up to this point has been using the Bold Tern for turbine installation.

This vessel rotation is the fourth time in five years where the company on short notice has been able to support its clients with additional installation capacity.
