ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands – CrossWind, a joint venture between Shell and Eneco, has assigned Van Oord the balance of plant scope for the Hollandse Kust (noord) offshore wind farm in the Dutch North Sea.

As balance of plant contractor, Van Oord’s activities encompass the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of the foundations, inter array cables and transportation and installation of the 69 wind turbines. The company is expected to deploy its offshore installation vessels Aeolus, MPI Adventure, and MPI Resolution and the cable-laying vessel Nexus.

Located about 18.5 km (11.5 mi) off the coast of the province of North Holland, the 759-MW wind farm is expected to generate at least 3.3 TWh per year. This is said to be enough electricity to power more than 1 million Dutch households.

CrossWind plans to have the wind farm operational by 2023.
