NEW ORLEANS – Offshore operators continue to evacuate platforms and rigs and shut-in oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico in response to Hurricane Sally.

According to the Bureau of Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), personnel have been evacuated from a total of 149 production platforms and three non-DP rigs. Two DP rigs remain off location.

From 30 operator reports, BSEE estimates that about 26.87% of the current oil and 28.03% of the natural gas production in the Gulf of Mexico have been shut-in. This equates to about 497,072 b/d of oil and 759.72 MMcf/d of gas.
