Vidsyn discovery confirms potential of Fenja Ridge offshore mid-Norway
Vår Energi and its partners have made a potentially commercial gas-condensate discovery close to its operated Fenja Field in the Norwegian Sea.
SVP Exploration Luca Dragonetti said the Vidsyn discovery could open much wider prospectivity along the ridge in the Fenja area.
The Deepsea Yantai semisub drilled well 6406/11-2 S in production license 586 in 310 m of water. According to the Norwegian Offshore Directorate, the well encountered a 110-m gas/condensate column in the Ile Formation in a sandstone reservoir with moderate to good properties.
In the secondary exploration targets in the Tilje and Tofte formations, the well penetrated aquiferous sandstones, with the petroleum/water contact encountered 3,513 m below sea level.
Vår Energi estimates recoverable resources in the range of 25 MMboe to 40 MMboe, with potential for the wider Vidsyn ridge to contain up to 100 MMboe.
The discovery well, which will be plugged and abandoned, is updip of a previous exploration well and 8 km from the Fenja subsea infrastructure, which is connected to the Njord production complex 35 km to the northeast. At Njord, oil is exported by shuttle tankers with produced gas sent via pipeline to the subsea Åsgard Transport System.
Dragonetti added, “We are actively exploring in this area and are currently maturing new prospects. The Vidsyn discovery is the consequence of our disciplined and selective exploration strategy focused on expanding our ability to deliver value through proximity to existing infrastructure.”
Other partners in the license are DNO subsidiaries DNO Norge and Sval Energi.
