OSLO, Norway – The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has issued consent to offshore gas trunklines operator Gassco for modifications at the Heimdal Field in the central North Sea and the Heimdal Riser Bypass project.

The latter includes a connection of the Statpipe, Oseberg Gasstransport, Vesterled and Grane gas pipelines, in connection with the completion of the Heimdal Field.

Heimdal was discovered in 1972 in 120 m of water and underwent development in the 1980s via an integrated drilling, production and accommodation platform. Production started in 1985.

Today the complex serves mainly as a gas processing center for other tied-in fields. Equinor submitted a decommissioning plan for Heimdal in 2020.
