OSLO, NorwayDNO has approval from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to remove subsea facilities from the Oselvar field in the southern Norwegian North Sea.

Oselvar, discovered in 1991 in 70 m (229 ft) water depth, was developed via a subsea template with three horizontal production wells connected to the Aker BP-operated Ula platform.

Production started in 2012, with operations ceasing in May 2018. According to the formal disposal resolution, decommissioning should be completed by the end of this year.

In a separate development, DNV, under a commission from the PSA, has been investigating sensor-based solutions for condition monitoring and identification of degradation in materials on facilities in the Norwegian sector.

Corrosion and fatigue have led to various serious incidents in insulated process piping. This will require strengthened preservation measures in future, the PSA said.

DNV’s report focuses on different sensor systems for detecting fatigue, corrosion and moisture penetration in insulation on piping systems.
