LONDON – Britain’s Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) is investigating a possible breach of a flare consent.

It follows the conclusion of an inquiry that there was sufficient initial evidence to merit a full investigation into a potential compliance issue.

The investigation will compile and assess further information to allow the OGA to take a decision; offer the company concerned the chance to provide written representations; decide on how the case should be resolved.

Last October the OGA published its Thematic Review into Industry Compliance with Regulatory Obligations. This reviewed six areas of interaction between the OGA and licensees, identifying some good or improving, practice, but also noting the need for further improvement, with a warning that sanctions could follow in instances where breaches were found.
