ABU DHABI, UAE – Mugharraq Port in the UAE’s Al Dhafra region has secured recognition as an international port facility.

According to logistics provider AD Ports Group, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure issued the certification under the provisions of the International Code for the Security of Ships and of Port Facilities (ISPS Code).

Mugharraq Port, which offers bulk handling services and logistics for offshore oil and gas projects, can now receive international and local vessels including mobile offshore drilling units, tugboats, chemical tankers, offshore support vessels, and high-speed cargo crafts.

AD Ports Group is close to completing a project to help the port support mega-offshore projects. Measures include extending the quay wall by up to 480 m (1,575 ft) with additional berths, deepening of the facility’s depth to 8 m (26 ft), and increasing the number of Ro-Ro ramps to six with extra berths designed to support heavy lift operations.

In addition, the load-bearing capability has increased by up to 15 metric tons/sq m (16.5 tons), speeding movement of cargo bound for oil and gas facilities.
