PARIS, France – INPEX and TotalEnergies have agreed to acquire PTTEP’s 100% interest in the AC-RL7 permit in the Timor Sea offshore northwest Australia.

Subject to approval by the authorities, INPEX will have a 74% operated share and TotalEnergies the remaining 26%, in line with its equity in the Ichthys LNG project.

The 418-sq-km permit, situated about 250 km northeast of the Ichthys offshore facilities, includes the Cash and Maple gas and condensate fields that were discovered in 2002 and 1989 respectively, later appraised by multiple wells.

By developing both fields, the partners aim to secure long-term feedstock for the Ichthys LNG natural gas liquefaction plant.

Julien Pouget, senior vice president of Asia-Pacific, Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies, said, “These resources will help us to meet the long-term demand of our customers in the Asia-Pacific region for LNG. This acquisition is also supported by the efforts undertaken with INPEX in the Bonaparte CCS Assessment joint venture to appraise the area’s potential for geological storage of CO2, in order to abate CO2 emissions from the Ichthys LNG project.”
