HOUSTON – The platform fire on Vermilion block 380 in the Gulf of Mexico was extinguished by the afternoon it broke out, says Mariner Energy.
The automated shutoff equipment on the production platform turned off the flow of hydrocarbons from the seven producing wells on the facility before the fire occurred and before the crew evacuated, says Mariner.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and an investigation is under way. Mariner and the regulatory authorities cooperated in responding to the event.
