Eni secures two new blocks offshore Egypt

Eni has been awarded operatorship of two deepwater blocks in the Egyptian sector of the Mediterranean Sea under the latest EGAS bid round.

SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy – Eni has been awarded operatorship of two deepwater blocks in the Egyptian sector of the Mediterranean Sea under the latest EGAS bid round.

Blocks 9 and 8 are both near the boundary with Cypriot waters.

Eni will hold 100% equity in block 9, also known as North Leil Offshore, which spans 5,105 sq km (1,971 sq mi) in water depths ranging from 2,100-2,800 m (6,890-9,186 ft).

At block 8, named Karawan Offshore, the company and partner BP will each have a 50% interest. This license, which extends more than 4,565 sq km (1,762 sq mi), is in 2,000-2,500 m (6,562-8,202 ft) of water.
