Bohai Bay spill estimate increased

HONG KONG – An additional volume of oil-base drill mud found at the Penglai 19-3 oil field bring the total volume of the spill to 3,217 bbls, according to a report by operator ConocoPhillips China Inc. to CNOOC Ltd.

As of Aug. 12, ConocoPhillips China with support from CNOOC has recovered 1,700 bbl from the seabed, and 440 bbls of an oil/water mix at the surface.

Work continues to recover the drilling fluid and to protect the Bohai Bay shoreline.
