Australia opens offshore acreage bidding

Australia’s Minister for Resources and Energy Gary Gray has opened the 2013 Offshore Petroleum Exploration Acreage Release bid round.

CANBERRA, Australia – Australia’s Minister for Resources and Energy Gary Gray has opened the 2013 Offshore Petroleum Exploration Acreage Release bid round.

Available for bid are 31 areas in six basins – South Petrel sub-basin, Vulcan sub-basin, Caswell sub-basin, Exmouth Plateau, Dampier sub-basin, and E Otway basin. The blocks are offshore Northern Territory, Western Australia, Victoria, and the Territory of Ashmore and Cartier Islands. Sizes range from 80 sq km (31 sq mi) to 13,765 sq km (5,315 sq mi) and have a variety of water depths. Closing for the first bidding round is Nov. 21, 2013.

The second round closes May 22, 2014. It includes 11 areas with the North Petrel sub-basin, Barcoo sub-basin, Exmouth Plateau, North Perth basin, and Gippsland basin.
