JEBEL ALI, UAE  Trelleborg Marine and Infrastructure has performed a remote installation of its navigation and piloting system SafePilot Offshore for an FPSO project offshore Angola.

The service allows tankers to safely and efficiently position at a specified loading location and monitors all vessel movements during oil offloading operations.

According to the company, it provides situational awareness and visibility on one screen, leading to a safer, more efficient operation.

In this case, the program was part of an upgrade of the navigation and positioning systems and buoy monitoring systems.

The FPSO operator, which was looking to ramp up remote operations for its offshore facilities, engaged Trelleborg Marine and Infrastructure to support the installation, data integration, software uploading and commissioning of the equipment.

Richard Hepworth, the company’s president, said, “By adopting our remote operational support and digital technology, the operator was able to save on operational costs and lower health and safety risk due to reduced offshore personnel.”

The installation has resulted in new standardization of equipment onboard multiple FPSOs in the Angola area, he added.
