TANANGER, NorwayConocoPhillips Skandinavia has produced first oil and gas ahead of schedule from the Eldfisk North development in the Greater Ekofisk Area in the North Sea.

The location is in PL018 in the southern Norwegian North Sea. Other partners are TotalEnergies EP Norge, Vår Energi, Sval Energi and Petoro.

In December 2022, the Norwegian authorities approved the plan for development and operation (PDO). According to ConocoPhillips, good cooperation and efficiency across companies involved led to the early startup.

The development comprises three six-well subsea templates 7 km from the Eldfisk Complex. Plans call for up to nine producer wells and five water injectors.

Eldfisk North Project will at peak produce 15,000 boe/d, using spare capacity at Eldfisk 2/7 S for processing and transportation through existing infrastructure in the Greater Ekofisk Area.

ConocoPhillips’ estimates the resource potential at Eldfisk North in the range 50 MMboe to 90 MMboe with projected capex of close to NOK13 billion ($1.24 billion).

The fractured chalk Eldfisk Field was discovered in 1970 with the original PDO approved in 1975. A new PDO and approval followed in 2011 for the Eldfisk II redevelopment project.
