LONDON --Sterling Resources looks to have achieved its aims with its appraisal well on the Breagh discovery in the UK southern North Sea.
Well 42/12-3 encountered a potential gas-water contact in line with that of the 42/13-2 discovery, with a gross gas column of 460 ft (140 m).
On test, the well flowed dry Carboniferous gas at up to 17.6MMcf/d through a 56/64-in. choke, at a measured depth below the rotary table of 7,332 – 7,447 ft (2,235 – 2,270 m). It has since been shut in to conduct a pressure build-up survey, according to partner Faroe Petroleum.
Another partner, Encore Oil, believes this western part of the Breagh structure could be a sizeable gas accumulation, with further potential in East Breagh and the surrounding acreage.
