BRAZIL -- Petrobras, Norse Energy Corp., and Queiroz Galvão Oil & Gas have received an environmental operations license from Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente (IBAMA) to begin production on the Manati field in the Camamu basin offshore Brazil.

Commissioning of the gas plant, pipeline, and production unit systems is under way. Gas and condensate production is expected to reach planned levels over the next 10 days.

The third production well in the field is being tied in and should be ready for production soon.

In November, the third production well reached a TD of 1,660 m (5,446 ft), hitting 266 m (873 ft) of gross pay plus two additional potential zones above the target.

In May 2006, the Manati development well #1 hit what is reportedly the thickest continuous gross pay drilled to date in a single well in Brazil.
