LONDON -- First gas has been achieved from the Caravel field in the North Sea, according to Shell UK.

Caravel, discovered in November 2002, has been developed using the Monotower platform design specially developed by Shell. The platform is powered using renewable energy sources (wind and solar power). Caravel gas will be transported to Shell's gas processing plant at Bacton.

Plateau gas production is estimated to be approximately 100 MMcf/d and associated condensates (light oil) of 3,000 b/d into the UK, according to the company.
