ABERDEEN, UK – EnQuest has contracted Wood Group PSN subsidiary Pyeroy Group and Walker Technical Resources for topsides integrity work on the Thistle platform in the UK northern North Sea.

The duo will deploy composite repair technology to refurbish all four of the Thistle platform’s stair towers, which span the 50-m (164-ft) height of the installation.

The technology involves application and molding of carbon fiber composite material and an epoxy resin to steel structures, and does not require welding (i.e. “hot” work).

Nor does the lightweight composite material add significant weight to the platform topsides. The composite repair should not corrode, and should also prevent further corrosion of the underlying steelwork.

EnQuest’s late life extension program onThistle is designed to extract 35 MMboe of reserves.
