Shell turns on taps at Corrib gas field offshore Ireland

First gas has flowed from Shell’s Corrib field, 83 km (51.6 mi) offshore northwest Ireland.

DUBLIN, Ireland – First gas has flowed from Shell’s Corrib field, 83 km (51.6 mi) offshore northwest Ireland.

The company received governmental approval for start-up late last week.

The field has been developed via six wells with gas transported to the Bellanaboy Bridge gas terminal in northwest Mayo through a 20-in. pipeline. At peak,Corrib should deliver 260 MMcf/d (7.4 MMcm/d).

Shell estimates the overall cost of the project at more than €1.1 billion ($1.2 billion).
