ADELAIDE, Australia – Production has started from the Phase 3C infill drilling program at the Bayu-Undan field in the Timor Sea.

According to Kevin Gallagher, managing director and CEO of operator Santos: “We’ve seen a better than expected reservoir outcome with this first well of the campaign, with successful results across both the primary and secondary targets in the well and a much higher initial gas production rate than expected.”

The first well came online at 178 MMcf/d of gas and 11,350 b/d of liquids, raising liquids production to more than 25,000 b/d from the field overall and increasing offshore well capacity for supply of gas to the onshore Darwin LNG plant.

The jackup Noble Tom Prosser has now begun drilling the second of the three planned wells, with the program expected to be completed early next year.

Santos’s partners in Bayu-Undan are SK E&S, INPEX, Eni, JERA, and Tokyo Gas.
