STAVANGER, Norway – Equinor has conducted a controlled closure of the Gudrun, Gina Krog, Kvitebjørn, and Valemon fields as the trade union Lederne stepped up its strike on the Norwegian continental shelf.

A total of 54 members of Lederne will be on strike at Gudrun, Gina Krog, and Kvitebjørn. The Valemon field must be shut down because it is linked to Kvitebjørn, Equinor said.

Production at the Johan Sverdrup platform continues at present even though 43 members of Lederne have been on strike there since Wednesday morning.

The strike is the result of a breach of mediation in the negotiations between the employer organization Norwegian Oil and Gas Association and Lederne.

In addition, Neptune Energy’s Gjøa field and Wintershall Dea Norway’s Vega field will also shut down.

According to the Norwegian Oil and Gas Association, these six fields produce 330,000 boe/d, or about 8% of the total oil and gas production on the Norwegian shelf.
