RIO DE JANEIROPetrobras is claiming a world regasification record for a floating storage and regasification unit.

This follows an operational test at the Guanabara Bay (TR-BGUA) LNG regasification terminal in Rio de Janeiro, which flowed 30 MMcm/d of natural gas.

All phases were witnessed by a certification company to confirm the facility’s capacity to operate at this higher rate. This is a requirement for the authorization process with Brazil’s State Environmental Institute (INEA - Instituto Estadual do Ambiente) and the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP).

TR-BGUA is in the Guanabara Bay waterway terminal complex, next to the Ilha D'Água terminal. The latter is an island-type pier with two berths for mooring and anchoring a FSRU vessel and a supply vessel, in a cross-jetty configuration.

The terminal’s current maximum regasification capacity is 20 MMcm/d. Its 28-in. diameter, integrated gas pipeline is 15 km (9.3 mi) long, of which 10 km (6.2 mi) is underwater and 5 km (3.1 mi) on land, and connects to the Campos Elíseos reception station for onward gas transport though a network of transportation pipelines.
