ACCRINGTON, UKWebtool has supplied JDR Cable Systems with a resettable emergency disconnection tool for the latter’s IWOCS well intervention and workover systems rental fleet. The IWOCS help offshore operators increase production from their subsea wells by providing a temporary connection for intervention, completions, and P&A applications.

They come in a variety of configurations to suit varying requirements, including single-wire deployment and self-supporting IWOCS. Using the Webtool cutter allows the IWOCS package to be released without damaging the subsea facilities if an incident occurs.

The tool can cut hydraulic and electrical flying leads and mixed material bundles in umbilicals, hoses and cables such as multiple fluid transfer lines, steel tension member, fiber rope, reinforced hoses, and electrical conductors.

In operation, the sacrificial mixed material bundle is positioned in the mouth of the emergency cutter. Once activated the bundle is cut in a single operation within a few seconds.

The tool can be re-set by returning it to the vessel or re-set subsea via an ROV to speed up the resumption of well intervention operations.
