ABERDEEN, UK -- BP has awarded Subsea 7 a $150-million contract for a gas export pipeline (GEL) project offshore Angola.

Subsea 7 will engineer, construct, and install 74 km (46 mi) of 12-in. (30-cm) diameter gas pipeline from the Greater Plutonio development in block 18 to a gas delivery pipeline in block 3. The company also will perform pipeline tie-in, including installation of three client-supplied subsea manifold systems and a 1,000-m (3,281-ft) umbilical before carrying out the final commissioning of the completed gas export system.

Engineering work will begin immediately, followed by the fabrication of the rigid pipeline at Subsea 7’s Luanda spoolbase in 2010. The offshore phase will start in 2010 and end in 2011, using Subsea 7 pipelay and construction vessels.
