DUBLIN, Ireland Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) AG has contracted NDT Global to complete a baseline inspection survey.

TAP transports natural gas from the Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea to Europe. The 878-km (546-mi) long pipeline connects with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border in Kipoi, crosses northern Greece and Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in southern Italy.

According to NDT Global, the gas pipeline system possesses many challenging characteristics, including mountainous terrain, high elevation profile, high wall thickness and a complex subsea depth profile. The company’s acoustic resonance technology scan technology manages all these challenges, while combining wall thickness, geometry, and mapping survey capabilities into a single inspection.

Willem Vos, Head of Product Management said: “This award further illustrates that gas pipeline operators recognize the advantage of high accuracy UT inspections and further solidifies the future of acoustic resonance technology in the global gas pipeline market.”
