BILLINGHAM, UKTracerco has won contracts to provide asset integrity data on subsea pipelines for an unnamed major operator in the Gulf of Mexico.

The company will deploy its Discovery subsea CT scanner for the inspections, taking high-resolution tomographic images of pipe wall thickness and contents to assist understanding of the pipelines’ condition.

In addition, the tomographic image will identify any wall loss features within the pipe and the location, quantity and density of any internal material and/or deposits, allowing the operator to plan for the future life of the pipelines.

Tracerco points out that CT scanning is a non-intrusive, external inspection method, so all the facilities can assets remain fully operational throughout each project.

Jim Bramlett, commercial manager North America for Tracerco, said: “Maintaining a pipeline’s integrity is invariably cheaper than performing significant repairs or pipeline replacement and we can help to ensure that potential failures are identified as early as possible…

“Discovery allows us to assess the condition of the pipelines through any type of protective coating, while online and all in real time.”
