(Windhoek) Tullow Oil, operator of the Kudu gasfield offshore Namibia, is looking to extract 1.2 tcf under a potential first-phase development. Technical studies have been completed on a scheme that would involve a long distance subsea tieback to a power plant operated by local utility Nampower. However, gas purchase agreements are still under negotiation.
Tullow estimates the field's recoverable potential at 9 tcf. Next year, it plans to drill two appraisal wells to delineate the structure: if these confirm the reserves estimate, the next step could be to take the gas to a much larger market in South Africa, via a subsea link to a power station, or an LNG treatment facility.
