Petronas CCS Venture, MISC Berhad and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines have formed the joint venture Jules Nautica.
This will lead the development and also serve as ultimate owner of planned liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO2) carriers, transporting LCO2 to designated storage sites for carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects in the Asia-Pacific region.
All three companies recently completed the front-end engineering design (FEED) for a 62,000 cu-m LCO2 carrier that had been awarded to Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute.
Last December, DNV awarded the jointly developed design its General Approval for Ship Application certification. According to the co-venturers, that signifies it is among the most developed low-pressure, low-temperature LCO2 carrier designs in the industry.
The joint venture also aims to enter commercial agreements with local CO2-emitting industries and storage companies, providing cross-border solutions to meet emerging environmental and regulatory requirements.
