(Stavanger) German gas importer Verbundnetz Gas has established a subsidiary in Norway that will bid for production licenses on the Norwegian shelf. Norway's Ministry of Petroleum and Energy notified VNG Norge of pre-qualification on August 10, four months after receiving the company's application.

Over the past decade, VNG has imported over 30 bcm of gas from Norwegian fields. The new subsidiary will seek to develop new reserves, strengthening the company's position as a supplier in Europe. However, VNG will still rely largely on long-term gas sales agreements for its supplies.
