Australia's Offshore Petroleum Act scheduled to take effect July 1

As of July 1, 2008, sections three through five of the Commonwealth Offshore Petroleum Act 2006 will come into effect and the Petroleum Submerged Lands Act 1967 will be repealed.

PERTH, Australia -- As of July 1, 2008, sections three through five of the Commonwealth Offshore Petroleum Act 2006 will come into effect and the Petroleum Submerged Lands Act 1967 will be repealed, according to Western Australia's Department of Industry and Resources.

The new Offshore Act provides changes to the structure and style of the legislation with some minor policy changes.
