Conrad aiming to firm up gas potential in offshore Indonesia ONWA concession
Conrad Asia Energy has commissioned a local contractor to acquire a 500-km 3D seismic survey over its Offshore North West Aceh Meulaboh (ONWA) production sharing contract (PSC) in Indonesia.
This adjoins the company’s other 100%-held PSC, Offshore South West Aceh (OSWA), and the two collectively span 20,000 sq km.
At present, the OSWA PSC is undergoing desk top prospect evaluation ahead of another planned seismic survey targeting the same geological play types as in ONWA.
The ONWA seismic program will likely get underway in late September/early October, with results from data processing and preliminary interpretations set to be released during first-quarter 2026.
The focus of the survey will be on a shallow-water (50-80 m) area that includes three gas discoveries and six leads. During flow tests, all the discoveries are said to have produced good-quality gas.
They are located close to the shore of Sumatra and could therefore provide straightforward, early development opportunities to supply gas to the domestic market.
Conrad expects the survey to improve its understanding of the subsurface and the size of the discoveries, other prospective resources, and the potential to increase the resource through further exploration.
Its forward plans included preparing a plan of development and a campaign of further drilling involving at least two wells in the hope of finding more gas, potentially for a mini-LNG development (with Indonesian gas company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara), or for power generation for use in north Sumatra.
Currently its estimated P50 resources in the shallow-water areas of ONWA and OSWA are at 546 Bcf.
The company added it was in discussions with a potential partner concerning a farm-in to the ONWA PSC.
