TGS embarks on Amendment 4 OBN campaign in US Gulf of Mexico
TGS has started acquisition of ultra-long offset ocean-bottom node (OBN) data for the Amendment 4 project in the US Gulf of Mexico.
The +1,100-sq-km campaign will cover parts of the Mississippi Canyon, Ewing Banks and Grand Isle South areas.
TGS is deploying its Gemini enhanced frequency source, which is designed to deliver lower frequency and better signal-to-noise for ultra-long offset OBN seismic than conventional seismic sources. The single-element, omnidirectional source is designed to remove variability caused by angle or azimuth, leading to more accurate AVO/AVA analyses and faster convergence in full-waveform inversion (FWI) algorithms.
Results should support more accurate subsurface imaging of the region’s complex subsalt geology, the company added.
The acquisition should finish by mid-year, with final products set to be made available in second-quarter 2026.
