NORWALK, Connecticut – Bolt Technology Corp. and WesternGeco have begun a joint effort to develop the E-Source air gun as an environmentally sensitive energy source for marine seismic surveys.
The E-Source air gun is a bandwidth-controlled acoustic wave source designed to reduce the potential impact of seismic signals on marine life. It optimizes output in the seismic band, suppresses the high-frequency components with acoustic impact, and retains the low-frequency components critical to seismic exploration, according to Bolt.
“By combining our unique air gun design and manufacturing experience with WesternGeco knowledge and research in the area of marine acoustics, we believe the E-Source air gun could represent a significant new development in the geophysical industry,” said Raymond M. Soto, president and CEO of Bolt.
