OSLO, Norway — TGS and partner SLB expect to start acquisition shortly of the Engagement 5 ocean-bottom node (OBN) survey in the eastern Green Canyon region in the US Gulf of Mexico (GoM).
The joint venture’s seventh campaign will cover 157 OCS blocks (3,650 sq km) via a long offset, sparse OBN survey. It will be adjacent to areas addressed in previous phases, forming continuous coverage of more than 23,000 sq km from the Mississippi Canyon in the east to Garden Banks in the west.
The recent GoM Lease Sale 261 attracted 16 winning bids for blocks within the survey area. The Engagement 5 dataset is designed for both existing and new leaseholders and regional explorers.
Acquisition of the survey involves a combination of long offset data and elastic full-waveform inversion to improve subsurface imaging. Initial results will be available in the second half of the year.
