MASSY, France  CGG has an agreement with Carbon Transition subsidiary Axxis Multi Client to reprocess the Utsira ocean-bottom node (OBN) seismic survey in the Norwegian North Sea.

Axxis Multi Client specializes in providing multiclient data for near-field exploration and in areas where E&P require seismic data to unlock potential for low-cost field developments.

The 2,000-sq-km Utsira survey, which is due to be completed in 2024, is claimed to be the largest ultra-high-resolution OBN survey in the North Sea. For the reprocessing, CGG will employ OBN processing and imaging technology including time-lag full-waveform inversion.

The goals are to improve the velocity model, overall image resolution and frequency content for fault interpretation and reservoir characterization workflows.

Results should support companies enhancing their petroleum production and reservoir management, CGG added.

Dechun Lin, executive vice president, Earth Data, at the company, said results from OBN imaging applied recently to a proprietary reprocessing of a sub-set of the Utsira survey led the clients to commit to reprocessing of the full survey.

The Utsira area fields include Edvard Grieg, Ivar Aasen, Balder, Gina Krog, Gudrun and Johan Sverdrup, along with various undeveloped discoveries and prospects.
