RIO DE JANEIRO – Shearwater GeoServices do Brasil will soon start a seismic acquisition survey for Petrobras over the Parque das Baleias fields in the Campos basin offshore Brazil.

The 3D Nodes project will combine ocean bottom nodes (OBN) technology with magnetometric and gravimetric surveys, with 810 sq km (313 sq mi) of OBN coverage.

According to Petrobras, the main aims of the $50-million program are to improve 3D imaging and to obtain future 4D monitoring of the fields, comprising Jubarte, Cachalote, Pirambu, Baleia Anã, Caxaréu, and Mangangá.

OBN technology should lead to improved collection of data, the company added, with proven worth monitoring presalt and post-salt reservoirs where having offshore platforms in operation makes acquisition with conventional seismic vessels towing streamers impossible.

The new 3D OBN data should optimize definition of reservoirs and their boundaries, allowing for better management of the fields, Petrobras claimed.
