OSLO, Norway – PGNiG Upstream Norway has contracted Applied Petroleum Technology (APT) to analyze results of the recent Shrek discovery in the Norwegian Sea.

APT will undertake geochemical and biostratigraphic analysis to assess where in the reservoir the oil resides, its characteristics and origin.

“The results of our analysis will provide the operator and license partners with data that will further de-risk the Shrek prospect and, hopefully, enable them to find more oil,” said Geir Hansen, APT’s head of petroleum geochemistry.

The company expects to complete the work at its laboratories in Oslo by the end of this month.

Shrek is thought to hold recoverable resources in the range 19-38 MMboe. The location is 5 km (3 mi) from the Aker BP-operated Skarv field in which PGNiG has an 11.9% interest.
