HAUGESUND, NorwayEquinor has contracted Aibel to perform hookup of the P1 process platform and connecting bridge UB002 to the living quarter platform at the Johan Sverdrup field complex in the North Sea.

This program was an option inAibel’s initial contract for hookup of the drilling platform, which was awarded by Equinor in January 2017. The new work has an estimated value of around NOK200 million ($23.7 million).

Aibel will prepare and execute hookup of P1 and UB002 and help connect the platform’s systems to the jacket. In addition, it will support Equinor during commissioning and offshore start-up.

“At the moment, we are in good shape working on the hookup of the drilling platform and the bridge from the drilling platform to the riser platform,” said project manager Egil Hansen.

Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea should complete the P1 topsides this fall, and the structure will be ready for installation next spring. Aibel will then begin the offshore campaign with up to 400 employees working in rotation toward summer 2019.

Previously the contractor delivered the topsides for the drilling platform, and it has the EPC contract for Sverdrup’s P2 process platform. It has also constructed the converter substation at Haugsneset that will provide power from shore to the entire field complex.
