FORNEBU, Norway – Equinor has added further offshore duties to the Aker Solutions/Kvaerner program for the Johan Sverdrup project in the Norwegian North Sea.

The operator has now exercised an option in the joint contract awarded in January 2017 for hookup of the riser platform which is presently under way and which Kvaerner describes as the field’s largest hookup operation.

The scope has now broadened to planning, management and hookup and commissioning assistance for the utility and living quarter (ULQ) platform, and preparatory offshore work associated with thePhase 2 modifications of the riser platform.

Work will start during the fall and will involve around 40-50 people from Aker Solutions, Kvaerner and Equinor, rising to 3-400 staff operating in rotation offshore.

Offshore work for the ULQ platform is due to begin next spring.

Kvaerner estimated the value of its share of the contract at around NOK100 million ($12 million).

To date the company has delivered three steel jackets for the initial four-platform complex, and it is currently building the ULQ platform and the Phase 2 module for the riser platform.

The joint operation between the two contractors is based on a 50/50 model, under which Kvaerner operates formally operate as a subcontractor to Aker Solutions.

Both companies will continue to work closely with Equinor for the new scope and assist in all parts of the project execution.
