ALE loads out Shah Deniz 2 jackets
ALE has completed ballasting load-outs of two jackets for the Shah Deniz 2 project in the Azeri sector of the Caspian Sea.
Jacket constructorBOS Shelf contracted the company to provide load-out ballasting of the production and riser (PR) and living quarters and utilities (QU) platform jackets at the yard in Baku.
ALE started the load-out phase last July, undertaking the external ballast system and engineering, including design and calculations, and completed the program this February.
The jackets, weighing 12,369 tons and 13,977 tons, were loaded-out onto the sameSTB-1 launch barge, measuring 153 x 45 x 12 m (502 x 147 x 39 ft), alongside BOS Shelf’s push/pull skidding system.
ALE applied its barge level monitoring and control system during the operations.
Project engineer Matthew Hodgson said the company designed and fabricated piping to adapt the ballast system to existing ballast piping onboard the barge, and was now preparing for the next phase of the Shah Deniz 2 project, which involves load-out and floatover of the platform topsides.
Various contractors have commissioned ALE to perform lifting operations for the project, using the company’sMega Jack system, weighing, strand jack skidding load-out.
