PARIS --Technip has completed the first-ever open sea catamaran floatover topsides intallation. The work was on the deepwater Kikeh spar for Murphy Sabah Oil Co. Ltd. and Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd. offshore Malaysia.

The topsides were a single, integrated deck, and the floatover method allowed much of the hook-up and precommissioning to be done onshore.

The EPCIC contract for work on the spar included delivery of the Spar hull, topsides, and drilling and production risers systems, as well as the marine installation, hook-up, and commissioning of the facilities offshore Sabah, north Malaysia. This is currently the oil field developed in the deepest waters in Southeast Asia, and the first Spar application outside the Gulf of Mexico.
