ESBJERG, Denmark – NOV subsidiary APL Norway has contracted MacArtney to provide swivels for the Njord field redevelopment in the Norwegian Sea.

MacArtney will provide a Moog Focal Low Voltage Electrical Optical Swivel (LVEOS) and a Medium Voltage Electrical Swivel (MVES) for the Equinor-operated project, in 330 m (1,083 ft) water depth.

Both the Njord Bravo FSO and the Njord A semisubmersible steel platform are undergoing life extension works on Norway’s west coast.

The LVEOS has a 420-mm dia. central bore with connections for multiple optical channels, and is capable of data transmission at 1 Gb/s. This combined with hazardous area certification and communication electronics for the vessel and the platform should ensure a safe and reliable communication from end to end through the rotating swivel stack, MacArtney said.

The MVES includes power passes for a 12-kV electrical supply and is designed to interface with the LVEOS, which will be installed above it.
