ABERDEEN, UK --Fairfield Energy has contracted Aker Solutions for engineering, procurement, and construction services for the Dunlin Alpha platform in the UK northern North Sea.

Aker in Aberdeen will undertake initial studies on the installation, which Fairfield recently acquired from Shell and ExxonMobil. This will be followed by a program of modifications, including offshore construction and onshore engineering, which will be managed in association with the platform's duty-holder Amec.

The three-year contract is valued at £20-30 million/yr ($39.5-59.3 million), and should create around 100 new jobs. Dunlin Alpha, which came on stream in August 1978, is 195 km (121 mi) northeast of Lerwick in the Shetland Islands.
