ATHENS, GreeceGastrade shareholders have taken FID on the construction of the Independent Natural Gas System of the Alexandroupolis LNG terminal offshore Greece.

This final milestone should allow the project to enter the construction phase.

The floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), with a capacity of 153,500 sq m (1.7MM sq ft) of LNG, will be connected to Greece’s National Natural Gas Transmission System via a 28-km (17-mi) long pipeline, taking the gasified LNG to the markets in Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, North Macedonia, Moldova, and Ukraine.

Gastrade expects the terminal to start operating by the end of 2023, with the contracted regasification capacity already at 50% of the technical capacity of 5.5 billion sq m/yr.
