ABERDEEN, UK – Survivex has started work on a four-week training program for BP’s operational personnel on the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim gas-condensate development offshore Mauritania and Senegal.

The company will train BP’s team in safety-critical operating procedures and processes for the project’s FPSO and hub facilities using techniques including virtual reality, augmented reality, and mobile apps.

3t Transform, like Survivex, part of the 3t Energy Group, is developing a virtual reality digital twin of BP’s facilities, to further the immersive experience of the project.

Personnel using the digital twin will be able to familiarize themselves with the layout of the facilities and learn operating systems and procedures.

Training starts this summer, with personnel subsequently joining the facilities during construction and commissioning. Up to 100 personnel should undergo training over the next 18-24 months.

Gavin Taylor, vice president - Global Sales and Strategy for 3t Energy Group, said: “The immersive techniques we use will ensure the crew are fully familiar with all of the project’s safety critical and unique operating procedures and equipment before even setting foot onboard the facilities.

“We already know through numerous studies that active learning using technology such as virtual reality embeds knowledge and helps knowledge retention. Our bespoke gaming-inspired mobile app will further enhance this by continually testing and assessing knowledge.”
