HOUSTON – KBR says its joint venture with SOCAR is nearing completion of the engineering design phase of the Azeri Central East (ACE) platform in the Caspian Sea.

The platform is said to be the first of its kind to have been designed through all phases – from concept to FEED and detailed design – making full use of KBR’s digital twin technology.

Currently the project is moving into the fabrication and commissioning phase in Azerbaijan.

According to KBR, the digital twin technology creates a platform to access all project information from anywhere in the world through all phases of execution.

Users can view procurement status and materials availability.

In the operation phase, the client can use the jointly-developed digital twin to perform tasks remotely including site surveys, isolation design, and work sign off.

This allows traditional offshore activities to be moved ashore, KBR added, while at the same time enabling real-time operational performance data through a digital representation of the physical asset.

SOCAR-KBR are managing the program in Baku where local engineers are delivering various projects supported by KBR’s engineering and data management team in London.
