ASKER, Norway – Equinor has awarded Aibel an engineering, concept optimization, and definition study for an unmanned process platform at the Krafla field in the Norwegian North Sea.

The main purpose will be to further mature the concept to facilitate a tie-in to the proposed new Aker BP-operated host platform in the NOA area (North of Alvheim).

Aibel, working with Equinor, will focus on a design that involves minimal maintenance, simplification of systems and functions on the platform, automation and digitization.

The contractor will draw on experience from previous Krafla and Peon concept studies and from unmanned platform concepts, in oil and gas and offshore wind.

First-phase work is under way and will continue until December.
