DELFT, the Netherlands – Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit has completed a platform removal campaign for Total’s Tyra Redevelopment Project in the Danish North Sea.

Over the past fortnight, the vessel removed more than 27,000 metric tons (29,762 tons) of platform structures from the Tyra gas field. During two initial voyages, the vessel delivered two processing and accommodation topsides and associated facilities to the M.A.R.S. recycling yard in Frederikshavn, Denmark.

The final two structures, flare jackets, will be transferred from the Pioneering Spirit to a cargo barge for load-in to the Sagro yard in Vlissingen, the Netherlands.

The time-critical sequence of lifts required the Pioneering Spirit to cover hundreds of miles between Denmark, the North Sea, and the Netherlands during the two-week execution window.

It removed the 14,000-metric ton (15,432-ton) Tyra East Alpha topsides and 7,800-metric ton (8,598-ton) Tyra West Alpha topsides using its motion-compensated topsides lift system.

For the smaller, lighter structures, the crew deployed the vessel’s new aft-mounted 5,000-metric ton (5,511-ton) crane.

Once the flare jackets have been offloaded, the vessel will sail to Kristiansand, Norway, to prepare for its final removal job this year, the Ninian Northern platform topsides for Canadian Natural Resources International.

The Pioneering Spirit will return to the Tyra field to remove the Tyra West Alpha jacket in 2021 and the Tyra East Alpha jacket in 2022.
