LUXEMBOURG – Vattenfall has awarded Subsea 7 a contract for the Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) 1-4 offshore wind farm project in the Dutch North Sea.

The work scope includes the transport and installation of about 140 wind turbine monopile foundations and 315 km (196 mi) of 66kV inner array grid cables in water depths between 18 and 27 m (59 and 89 ft). Offshore installation is scheduled for 2021 and 2022 using Seaway 7’s heavy lift, cable lay and support vessels.

The contract is subject to a final investment decision by Vattenfall.

Located between 18 and 36 km (11 and 22 mi) offshore, the 1.5-GW HKZ 1-4 wind farms are expected to meet the electricity needs of about 2-3 million Dutch households.

Vattenfall is developing these as the first subsidy-free wind farms in the Netherlands.
